The regional Opportunity Works Plan to reduce poverty was completed in December 2003.
In our community people are self-sufficient and do not live in conditions of poverty. Our community is a place where we take responsibility and work together to ensure that each person has the assets, support and opportunity to be self-sufficient.
The mission of Opportunity Works is to facilitate the creation a community where the condition of poverty occurs infrequently. When it does occur, it is a temporary condition at which time people have the assets, support and opportunity to be self-sufficient.
Creating a movement to help people build social, human and economic assets will make poverty temporary and infequent.
Through the input of over 5,000 people we developed a model of the components of the Opportunity Works plan. It has the following elements: 5 Community Prioririties and 4 Common Actions (Empowerment, Policy, Effectiveness for All and Knowledge). When the plans in each areas are enacted, it results in increased ssets that make poverty temporary and infrequent.
